Right now, there’s an exciting resurgence in British watch and clock making.

New brands with fascinating stories are emerging all the time and, in November 2020, we launched the Alliance to encourage and guide this renewed energy in our sector and to provide a voice for our members.

An Inclusive Approach

As our sector’s official trade body, we represent watch and clock making brands trading across the British Isles (including the Republic of Ireland).

Our Trade member companies are broad and diverse; from world-renowned horologists to new start-ups; from makers of exclusive mechanical timekeepers to design-led affordable watches; from rare finds to mass precision; from micro-brands to super-brands.

We’re excited to see new watch and clock makers establishing themselves alongside some of our great British heritage names which have been relaunched by the descendants of their original founders.

What our Trade members all share is an enthusiasm for the future of British watch and clock makers and a commitment to join hands for the journey ahead.

Working Together

This uniquely collaborative spirit amongst our watch and clock brands is part of what defines British watch and clock makers.

Surveying our trade members in successive Bellwether studies has shown a collective desire to try and bring more mass production back to Britain. While this is a long-term ambition, we’ve already seen a paradigm shift in the last few years with an increase in prototyping and a return of skilled assembly to Britain. This evolution across our sector is a significant step on our journey.

The Alliance has been delighted to accept the invitation to be a member of the CPHE and Eurotempus groups of international watchmaking trade federations. This gives the British sector a voice and the opportunity to participate in shared agendas for watchmaking with our EU and Swiss partners.

We’re also very proud to represent our Trade members on the Economic Sector Panel of the Department for Business and Trade and the GREAT Britain campaign to promote our sector internationally.

In the USA, we deeply value our mutually supportive partnership with the Horological Society of New York.

The information we collect about you

Identity Data includes first name, last name, username or similar identifier, marital status, title, and gender
Contact Data includes email address and telephone numbers
Technical Data includes internet protocol (IP) address, your log in data, browser type and version, time zone setting and location, browser plug- in types and versions, operating system and platform, and other technology which may be on the devices you use to access our websites
Profile Data includes your username and password, purchases or orders made by you, your interests, preferences, feedback and survey responses

Facebook custom audience

We use your personal data to create custom audiences and lookalike audiences on Facebook for the purpose of advertising our products to you.

When custom audiences are created, Facebook acting as the data processor (we are the data controller) uses our Customer Relationship Management (CRM)data to match it to people with a Facebook account to create a Custom Audience for our advertising campaigns.

When we set up a custom audience, we provide Facebook with Hashed Data (achieved by reducing the data to a string of characters for security purposes) which we upload from our database. Facebook then match our Hashed Data with their Hashed Data, which is made up of Facebook email addresses.

For this section, the following definitions apply:

custom audience is a type of audience on a social media platform that comprises our customers, which may include you if you have the relevant social media account; and
lookalike audience is a type of audience which uses a custom audience to identify the common qualities of the individuals in it (such as demographic information or interests)

You may opt-out of participation in our Facebook Custom Audience by sending an email, from the email address you are opting out of, to us at privacy@britishwatchmakers.com. We will forward your name and email address to Facebook.com with a request to delete you from all of our Facebook Custom Audience Ads.

Google reCAPTCHA

We use “Google reCAPTCHA” (hereinafter referred to as “reCAPTCHA”) on our website. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”).

The purpose of reCAPTCHA is to determine whether data entered on our website e.g. information entered into a contact form, is being provided by a human user or by an automated program. To determine this, reCAPTCHA analyses the behaviour of the website visitors based on a variety of parameters. This analysis is triggered automatically as soon as the website visitor enters the site. For this analysis, reCAPTCHA evaluates a variety of data e.g. IP address, time the website visitor spent on the site or cursor movements initiated by the user. The data tracked during such analyses is forwarded to Google.

reCAPTCHA analysis runs entirely in the background. Website visitors are not alerted that an analysis is underway.

By law we have to keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial and Transaction Data) for six years after they cease being customers.
